Third Quarter Newsletter
August 2019

Letter from the President

Dear lacemaking friends,

Hope the summer heat is providing you with plenty of cool indoor time for lace.

Kathy Ogle, Stacy Tackett, Sherry Mathers, Heather Norris, Amy Groff and I enjoyed our time at the IOLI convention in Spokane Valley. The accommodations were good and had a wonderful outdoor dining area to enjoy the cool Washington air. We were served plenty of Walla Walla Washington sweet onion dishes. Who knew there were so many ways to serve onions! We are looking forward to next year’s convention in Mesa, Arizona.

Our next workshop will be with Louise Colgan from October 5 thru 7. Sign up information will be sent via email. After our membership has had a chance to enroll, I will send an invitation to the other nearby lace groups through our IOLI Central Regional Director. If you have any skill you would like to share or a lace you would like to learn please speak up and we can see if it can be arranged into a group activity.

Dorothy has offered to teach us Tenerife lace making. Who would be interested?

Kathy has offered to host a lace retreat for members at her east Texas cabin and the club house nearby. She has room to sleep quite a few and there are cabins to rent nearby. We could have a teacher or just get together and lace. We just need to decide on a date. Who would be interested?

Our next volunteer opportunity is the Plano Quilt Show on August 9 and 10. After that there will probably be a date for us to demo at the State Fair. I hope many of you have entered items for judging at this year’s fair. It is wonderful to see them displayed when we are volunteering at the fair.

Our, now famous author, member Vivian Lincoln has published a book “All About Chappy” available on Amazon under the nom d plum MuttonHead.
Nine-year-old Chappy is a curious, adventurous child who lives with his family in the hamlet of Annieville, Mississippi. Just three-square city blocks, this village is cursed with a kind of sadness and misery everyone knows about, but it’s a topic no one dares to speak of. Annieville lacks any aspect of joy or happiness; the concept of fun has long since packed its bags and departed.
One day, Chappy decides to run away from home. He has no idea, nor does he care, what effect his decision to leave will have on his family

or community. He just wants to experience what’s on the other side of the bridge. Little does he know, his plan ultimately improves his life and the lives of the other local children.
A modern fairy tale, All about Chappy shares a story about empowerment, confidence, optimism, and offers a better understanding of the world.

Congratulations Vivian.

Our next business meeting will be October 29, 2019.

Best to you all,
Marilyn

Demos

Our demo at the Plano Quilt Show Aug. 9th and 10th went well this year and we had a lot of interest in our group.

We are set to demo at the State Fair of Texas on October 15th. There will be a morning shift from 10 until noon or so and the afternoon shift is from 1 to 4. There will be a couple of parking passes and complimentary tickets for those who volunteer to work. It's a great venue in the Creative Arts Bldg. Please let Kelly Day know if you would like to participate at 214-616-0066.
