The Dallas Lace Society

Forth Quarter Newsletter

October 2020

Marilyn Waisanen Point Ground Study

Hi my fellow lacers,

It was so fun to see those who could attend our zoom business meeting and catch up on what is going on. It was wonderful to see Rowena looking so lovely and strong in spite of all the terrible treatments she has to endure. Fabulous Arthiss was able to be upright and looking great in spite of her battles with back pain. I know we all wish them the very best.

We voted to continue our support of the library by contributing our usual $30 this quarter. Kathy Ogle reports that there is progress being made at the new library location.

The winners have been announced for the Bobbin Lace categories of the State Fair. The ladies that collect the items and organize them in the display cases did so again this year. Even though there were no Fair attendees they still loaded the display cases and took photos. Such dedication. It is difficult to find the photos at BigTex.com but Arthiss persevered and sent the below instructions. Check it out if you have the time to sort through a couple of hundred photos. Arthiss found them on her phone and I found the instructions worked on my laptop too.

1) search: “State Fair of Texas photos facebook”
2) click on website link
3) click “photos”
4) click “see all”
5) click “2020 arts and crafts 200 photos”
6) click on the big photo and then scroll through

We can congratulate Arthiss on winning first place in original design with her “Seasons”and second place in adapted design for her neck scarf. Stacy took third in adapted design for her Idrija “Water”. I took first place in adapted design for the heart shaped point ground exercises I have been doing. I think the ladies liked the frame. Hopefully next year more of you will enter. It really is fun and the ladies who take in all the items are so encouraging.

Linda Cole announced that the Dallas Quilt Show for 2021 has been canceled.

Susan Merritt mentioned a post on Facebook that highlights lace suppliers. It starts with “Lace Suppliers Spotlight Intro – Louise West Lace Design”. She explains the concept and below the questions are some items to look at. Evidently new ones will be posted every week.

We discussed what we could do in place of our Christmas party. Unfortunately, nothing that involves all of us getting together and sharing a meal! We also decided to push it to January 16. We thought we could at least do a lace exchange. If you would like to participate you would just let me know. Then there will be a drawing to match you with another participant. You would mail your item to the person you were paired with by January 8 so that it would be sure to arrive at their home by January 16. Before you mail it please take a picture of it and email it to Kelly so she can post them after the zoom party. If you don’t have the equipment to do that perhaps the person you are mailing it to would be able to send the photo to Kelly. Then on January 16 at 2 PM we will have a very special zoom party to show off all of our beauties and catch up with everyone. As usual, you may certainly join the party even if you don’t participate in the lace exchange.

Best wishes to all of you in these troubled times.

Marilyn

Christmas/New Years' Party

January 16th 2 pm on ZOOM

If you wish to participate in the lace exchange, please let Marilyn know ASAP. You will be paired, by random draw, with another participant. You will be notified who you will send your piece to by January 8th, so they will receive it by the 16th. Please take a photo of it before sending it out and send the photo via text or email to Kelly (kellysarah@msn.com or 214-616-0066) so it can be postsed for the party.

We hope many of you will be able to join the “party” whether you join the exchange or not. We will be sending out the zoom link before the party. If you have never Zoomed or have questions, contact kelly or Marilyn for help getting set up.
