The Dallas Lace Society
Second Quarter Newsletter
May 2018

Letter from the President
Dear DLS Members,

I guess we are going to have to call this letter the “occasional president’s letter” rather than the “quarterly”. It has been a busy year for me but I’m hoping it will all be more tranquil soon. I’m sure all of you have been busy, busy too.

I know we have been busy making flowers for convention. Sherry Mathers, Heather Norris and Amy Groff, along with other Alamo Bobbin Lacers have been making flowers and mounting the ones we all have made plus all the other work they must do to organize the convention. Sherry sends her thanks to all of us for participating in flower making and all the other ways we are and will be helping with the IOLI convention. She would love to see you at Convention to thank you in person.

Kathy Ogle did a fantastic job of organizing our making of water bottle holders to hand out at convention as the Dallas Lace Society gift to attendees. Many of you worked to help get them done and I know they will be appreciated. What could be better than a bottle of water in San Antonio in July?

Many of us demonstrated at the Dallas Quilt show in March. It is always fun and worth the effort of hauling decorative items and lace necessities. If you haven’t given it a try before you should. We have another opportunity to demo at the Plano Quilt show August 10 and 11. A little smaller show but still lots to see and a good chance to entice new members.

We had an invitation to speak about lace and demonstrate from the Halcyon Ladies Club of McKinney in February. Dorothy did an excellent job of speaking on lace history and Debbie Stone, Stacy Tackett and Pat Bailey demonstrated making lace. The group generously gave us a donation for our library in appreciation.

Arthiss, once again, designed a beautiful display of lace. The Lancaster library was so appreciative and praised the beauty of our collection and display. I was honored to be the chauffeur and ladder climber as Arthiss was in the midst of eye surgeries while working so hard to make an artful display of our lace pieces.

Be sure to keep Debbie Stone informed of any volunteer hours and travel time related to volunteering that you incur. She keeps our records and reports numbers to IOLI for us so that we can remain accredited.

One of our favorite teachers is coming to town to lead a workshop September 22, 23 and 24 – Louise Colgan – of course. She will be teaching Milanese and registration is open. The fee is $120. You can reserve your spot by sending a check made out to Dallas Lace Society to Marilyn Waisanen at 1918 Olive St. Apt 801, Dallas, 75201.

Our next regular business meeting would be July 31.

Hope to see you on a Tuesday or Saturday soon.
