Letter
from the President
Dear
Lacers,
I
hope the new year is being good to you all and you are finding time
to lace.
As
many of you know,, our meeting room at the library was covered in
mold and we were afraid we were going to have to find a new meeting
place. Thankfully they have remediated the mold and renovated the
room. We should be able to use it starting this week. The story is
that construction will begin on a new library in April. The lot is
south of Forest on Greenville. The same side as Braum’s but
further south, across Greenville from a medical clinic. I didn’t
see any signs of construction last week as I drove past but will keep
an eye on it.
We
had a lovely Christmas party with plenty of door prizes and raffle
items to keep us excited. The lace exchange, as always, brought out
some beautiful pieces of lace and craft work for us to admire.
Always enjoyable to spend time with good people.
If
you think of any type of lace that you would like a workshop on,
please speak up and if we have enough interest, we can start looking
for a teacher. We hope to have details on Cathy Morris’s workshop
scheduled for April 6 and 7 soon. We are not sure about a fall
workshop with Louise. Her mother had been ill, so she was traveling
to be with her as much as possible. Sadly, her mother died February
5th.
Her mailing address is 36481 Dijon Drive, Newark, CA 94560 if you
would like to send a note.
Our
next demonstration will be the Dallas Quilt show on March 8, 9 and
10. Sign up schedule will be sent out soon. I certainly hope you
can participate. Quilt Plano will be August 9 and 10. I imagine we
will be asked to demo at the State Fair too. We even have a
presentation scheduled for Feb 13, 2020 with the Dallas Needlework
and Textile Guild. Dorothy has volunteered to talk about lace and
its history and others of us can demo.
We
have received a generous and extensive donation of lace books and
supplies from Patricia Grummitt of Fairview. Rowena remembers her
from
the
1988 convention time and that she gave a workshop in McKinney
organized by Barbara Roth during the 90s. Her friends tell me she
was a lace teacher for many years. Miss Pat, as her friends call
her,
had to give up lacing and is now moving to assisted living. She
wanted her lace supplies to go to lacers who would make good use of
them. Arthiss has been happily sorting through the 140 or so books
and will be adding to our library and marketing the duplicates. I
have been organizing and cleaning the lace supplies and now have them
ready for selling. Emails will follow!
Our
next business meeting will be April 30, 2019.
Best
to you all,
Marilyn
