Letter
from the President
Dear
lacemaking friends,
How
are those lace projects going? Be sure to send photos and comments
to Kelly for the web page. It is fun to see what others are working
on – share successes and problems.
We
are enjoying our fresh, clean meeting room at the library. I know
the staff will all be glad when they have a new building. They have
put a construction fence around the property that I think the
building will go on. May be looking at the wrong lot though!
As
you all know we were blessed with large donations of lace supplies
and books. Pat Grummitt that I mentioned last month, Mary Ellen
Beaty, and from the daughter of a Houston lace maker, Margaret
Sheppard. Their generosity and support of our group greatly improved
the financial position for the future and the scope of our library.
We had a great dispersal of items on a Saturday afternoon and orders
via email. Thanks to all of you that participated.
Arthiss
spent many an hour integrating the donated books into our library and
preparing listings to sell the books we already had a copy of. Our
library has been greatly enriched by these wonderful donations.
We
had an enjoyable workshop with Cathy Morris hosted by Arthiss in her
beautiful arts and crafts patio room. It is always fun to see the
beautiful Honiton lace pieces Cathy has made and to have her patient,
knowledgeable help with our many different projects. If you think of
any type of lace that you would like a workshop on, please speak up
and if we have enough interest, we can start looking for a teacher.
One suggestion by Kathy Ogle is a class in Tenerife Lace. Also, if
you have a skill you would like to teach please speak up. We have
Louise scheduled for Oct 5 thru 7, 2019 and Sept 26 thru 28, 2020.
Mark your calendars now.
Our
next demonstration opportunities include the Quilt Plano show August
9 and 10 from 9AM to 5PM. We have also been invited to present at
two clubs and Dorothy has agreed to give our talk while we
demonstrate making lace. They are for the Dallas Needlework and
Textile Guild on February 13, 2020 and the Bay View Century Club on
January 9, 2020. I imagine we will be asked to demo at the State
Fair too.
Our
next business meeting will be July 30, 2019.

Workshops
Thanks
Cathy Morris for the very helpful workshop in April.
We
plan to have another workshop Oct. 5 - 7th with Louise Colgan onn
Milanese Lace. Stay tuned for more infomarion about registration.
Demos
Our
next demo is at the Plano Quilt Show, scheduled for Aug. 9th
and 10th.
If
that's ot enough, the State Fair of Texas begins in late Sept. and we
should be asked to demo there as well.

Potato Chip Lace Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup old fashion oats
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 5 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoon corn syrup
- 2 tablespoon heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2
cups (1 3/4oz) Maple Bacon Kettle Brand Potato Chips
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Place oats and almonds in a food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped. Transfer to a bowl and stir in flour and salt.
In a small sauce pan, combine sugar, butter, corn syrup and heavy cream and stir over medium heat. Bring mixture a rolling boil and let boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly, 3 or 4 minutes. Stir in vanilla. Pour over dry mixture and stir to combine. Set aside until cool enough to handle.
Use a sturdy spatula or wooden spoon and fold in potato chips, breaking chips into pieces as it is being folded into the dough. Use your hands to form 1-inch dough balls, making sure to pack each ball tight. Place balls on prepared baking sheet, about 3-inches apart (cookies will spread).
Bake 1 pan at a time, until center of cookies are golden and edges are light brown, about 10-13 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside for 1-2 minutes, or until cookies hold their shape when lifted from the pan. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

The International Organization of Lace Annual Convention will be held in Spokan, Washington, co-hosted by Walla Walla Lacy Lacers and Shuttlebirds Tatting Guild July 21st – 27th. .
